A builder’s level serves as a helpful tool for almost every construction project. A simple design, it sits on a tripod and shows markings on different surfaces, helping workers measure distances and create perfectly straight lines. We’ll describe what this tool is and how it’s used in today’s blog. For more information on other tools YRock Trucking uses in the field here in Central Florida, check out our blog

A builder’s level, sometimes called a “dumpy level,” is used to set, transfer, or measure horizontal lines. Surveying crews most commonly use it, but it’s also handy for many construction sites. Builder’s levels are inexpensive, lightweight, and relatively easy to use, leaving little excuse for lines that aren’t straight. However, you will need a stable surface for the telescope of the level to be placed.

Many parts make up the builder’s level, but we’ll go over the main ones today. First, fit the caps onto the tripod legs and screw the head onto the top. Keep the level part safe by storing it in its case when not in use. Failing to do this could result in damage to the level. When you’re ready to use it, attach the level to the head, and remove the protective lens covers.

Next, center the level’s bubble in the vial. Move the instrument through various stages of the 360-degree rotation, checking to make sure it is level at all points. If it’s not, make adjustments as you go. Aim your telescope at an object. If the line is blurry, adjust the eyepiece back and forth until you can see a clear line.

Builder’s levels aren’t difficult to use when you know the right steps. Thankfully, you’ve got YRock in your corner every step of the way. For help with every phase of your project or to let the experts handle it from start to finish, visit our website for a free quote
